In 1979 Ken launched KSD out of a desire to find a more honest and respectful way to manage projects. He is dedicated to sharing the knowledge he’s gained over the last five decades in construction management as he inspires us with his enthusiasm and faith in others. He excels in matching the right teams to the right projects – spurring them to execute with precision and honesty. He has proven time and again that the right team can perform in concert to create a project far greater than the sum of its parts. He has a knack for giving more than he expects to receive and somehow compelling others to do the same.
Ken’s unique management style has earned him a reputation for precision and integrity in the building industry. He understands that every good decision starts by asking what would be best for our clients – always striving to meet their design, financial and operational goals without exception.
Outside the office you can find Ken playing tennis, or enthusiastically watching his favorite Cal Bears.
After joining KSD in 1985 Steve has led construction on some of our most celebrated projects. Originally crafting homes as a carpenter and contractor, he realized he could accomplish more with a conversation than a hammer. A born communicator and brilliant builder Steve brings complex projects to life joining architects and engineers, budgets and schedules, setting aside politics to shake out what’s envisioned and what’s important. With a keen intuition for character developed over more than three decades on the front lines, Steve brings a seasoned perspective and unique ability to achieve our clients’ goals.
Having demonstrated his skills over projects large and small, frequently requiring phased or fast-track construction, Steve is constantly being called on to run projects for repeat clients who know that his association with their project will spell success.
When not ensnared by work or playing with his granddaughters, Steve prefers to spend his free time riding his bike or chasing perfection on the golf course.
Having grown up in the “family business,” Jeremy Kern-Defiebre received considerable experience as a youth in the construction industry. In young adulthood, he temporarily chose a different path.
He spent fifteen years in public service, joining the Marine Corps, then working as a firefighter and a paramedic, receiving numerous civic awards. He also served on the staff or board of organizations helping troubled youth and foster children. His paramedic career was abruptly ended by a tragic accident in which he was disabled; he turned to training service animals, including his own mobility dogs.
Bedridden for a time, Jeremy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, while slowly working to build up his strength. His post-graduate education included a certificate program in Project Management from U.C. Berkeley.
Having had an extreme life change experience has brought Jeremy full circle; he’s returning home to take the reins of KSD Group from his father, bringing new ideas and abilities to enhance the company.
Jeremy has strong family values, raising four daughters. His favorite off-work activity is to spend time with them and his wife, barbecuing for friends. He enjoys cooking, golf, travel, and shooting ranges. He still trains dogs. His most oft-repeated expression is, “How can I help?”
